Ladies and Gentlemen,

it's the wonderful world of thesis again for me

after evading it for the past weeks.

23rd-Oct-2008 11:28 pm - putting up a business is hard work.

I know, I know. We've only just begun and this is probably the easiest part of this thing we put ourselves into.

Avant.Gardia was originally slated to open this Wednesday but we had to move the soft opening to this Friday because there were many things still to be fixed.

I spent the latter part of last week until today editing pictures for the site. Whew. Descriptions are to be edited and the clothes have to be arranged. Tiring and sometimes cumbersome but it feels all worth it at the end.  :)

On another note,
I have every reason to be afraid, to be very afraid. I haven't done a single work for my thesis:( I've been so preoccupied with Avant.Gardia that I haven't had time to finish a single module. Gasp, have to work double-time. :|

On still another note:
I want a new wardrobe.:)) Okay, I'm getting senseless. Time to work. Haha.

I am very very un-risk taking. When my Social Entrepreneurship class had a 'test', I got a very low score in risk-taking. In short, I am segurista. (Enter a little philo: dahil wala akong tunay na pag-asa kung kaya't hindi ko makuhang magbigay ng isandaang porsyentong pananalig; and this reminds me that I really should be studying instead of blogging haha. Later) Friends who know me will probably say that I have an uncanny tendency to be control freak-ish. Yikes haha.

For the past months, my friends and I have been talking about setting up our online business. Actually, I think it has been last year since I wanted to started my own biz. The only problems then were that I didn't have enough capital (still not enough right now but I have a more substantial amount right now) and I was so freakin' busy. I still am busy right now but I'm about to go on semestral break so if I'm going to start, it might as well be now. Heehee.

I actually want to ask my dad for advice because I think that he has a lot of entrepreneurial wisdom in him hehe but I think he's just going to discourage me and tell me that business is hard nowadays. Eep, great. Thanks for the support.

Why do I want to go into business (though I have zero knowledge of simple accounting, though I am one of the most least business-minded persons in the planet)?
- My first reason is simply for fun. Maybe this is a bad reason (haha) but I just like the idea. If I'm going to do it, I want to be able to enjoy it.:)
- For financial sustainability. An online business is something that can be a sideline for me. I have too many wants (sigh. haha) and I figure that I'll go bankrupt if I do not get my own source of income. Besides I'm already 21 years old. Kinda old, yes, haha but I am way too financially immature at this point. That's why I want to handle something like this to build discipline. And I'm a hard worker too:D.
- My parents are growing older and pretty soon, I want them to be able to retire especially my mom. They both deserve a life of comfort and luxury and I want to be able to provide them even just a bit of that.

So, what's the point of this entry? I just wanted to put these down into writing to clear my head and probably to figure out the next step. Lord, some help? Hehe:-p

Repost from Kate Coderes:

For the downers, just let us be. That act was low, yes, I agree and I understand why people are very angry but Season 71 is so over. Let's all move on with our lives.:) (not in any offense to my La Sallian friends)

Three days ago, photos of wooden planks bearing the names of the DLSU Green Archers stuffed together with those to be used for the Victory bonfire last Tuesday, 30 September were circulated on the Internet.  To set the record straight, Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ sent a letter of apology to Bro. Armin Luistro, FSC of De La Salle University last Thursday, 2 October 2008 .  The second letter is from Mr. Jessie Paredes, HS'54, AB'58.

Re: Ateneo Bonfire

Dear Bro. Armin,

I would like to extend my deepest apology to you and to the La Sallian community for what some alumnus or student did at the Ateneo Bonfire, namely, write the names of the La Salle players on the wood.  Unfortunately, none of us saw it ahead of time, because the wood pile was covered by a tarp against the rain until the time came to light it.

Despite our rivalries in sports, we are both committed to Christian values and what was done is certainly a violation of values we share.

Once again, my deepest apologies to you and to the La Sallian community.  We are trying to find out who is responsible for the act.

Sincerely yours,

BIENVENIDO F. NEBRES, SJ
President

Fr. Bienvenido F. Nebres, SJ
President
Ateneo de Manila University

Dear Fr. Nebres,

I write this letter for two reasons.  The first one is to own up to producing the materials with the names of the Green Archers and placing them prominently in the woodpile before the bonfire for all to see.

Secondly, I sincerely apologize to you for the queasy situation you are in as a result of the backlash it created.

While the nature of this letter is a personal apology to you, please feel free to extend it to parties you may deem fit to receive it.

Sincerely,

Jesse Paredes
